Missionary Update 12/02/2021

Greetings to you from the beautiful state of Yucatán, Mexico. We’re blessed to write you and give you a brief update on God’s workings in the field of Mérida. All year we’ve been talking about our building project and the advances towards its completion. We can honestly say that stage 1 is what we would call a done deal. There are a few minor details that remain, like some stucco work outside, but we are worshipping in a fully functional building that we inaugurated on the 7th of November. Our pastor Jason Murphy came and brought 2 other pastors with him. Pastor Joshua Bryant of Open Door in Missoula, MT and pastor Nate Gipp of Stillwaters Baptist in Lewiston- Clark, ID. It was an exceptionally wonderful and blessed time. The attendance was good as we had 2 nights of preaching, and the Sunday morning service was about as full as it could be. Thank God we had rented 50 chairs because we used every single one of ours and the rentals! We saw 3 people saved and had 6 baptized. All 3 messages we heard were spot on and exactly what God would have for us. All centered on the importance of God’s care for the Christian through the local church. We had visitors from one of our church plants in another state come and we had a good group come out from our village church. It was moving to say the least. Our people here in the city were really excited about meeting the spiritual brothers and sisters they have from our village church; it was the first time we were ever together. What a joy!  Looking forward we are already planning the 2nd floor where we’ll house Sunday school and other ministries. God is so good; our neighbor is a gym who is closed on Sundays, and he has given us free use of his covered area in the front of his building for our kid’s church. What a blessing! Pray for Hector, I have planted seed, I’m asking that the Lord give the increase. We want to say thank you to Treasure Valley Baptist of Idaho who has given a substantial gift towards the 2nd floor classrooms, may God give them fruit that abounds to their account. Of course, we will be seeking help to continue in that worthy effort. If you want to help you can send what the Lord lays on your hearts to our mission’s board and they will set it aside for that. We have the plans; we have an estimate from our builder and we’re looking at $20 - $25,000 to see it through. (Depending upon how the costs of materials rise and fall). As was the case in our first stage our own church here will also be participating in a material drive to purchase all the blocks we’ll need. May you each have a blessed Christmas season and a prosperous New Year!  Mitch and Liz, Your servants in the Yucatán   Sending Church:                                                                                                                                     Support Address; Open Door Baptist                                                  Pastor Jason Murphy                                              Word for the World Baptist Ministries 177014 44th Ave W                                                                                                                                PO Box 849 Lynnwood, WA 98037                                                                                                                           Rossville, GA 30741-0849

Missionary Update 12/14/2020

Hello from the Yucatan Peninsula, it´s a great joy for us to write you and keep you updated on the work of the Lord. We are thankful for your faithful support that allows us to stay here and work in the gospel ministry. We are grateful for your labor of love and sacrifice.   So, we are finally coming to the end of 2020. I think a lot of us are sort of glad to put it in the rear-view mirror. As a minister it´s has been a somewhat frustrating year as much of our efforts were hindered by the lockdown that lasted 8 months here in our part of the world. I know that talking with many pastors this past year that the biggest exasperation we all had was the lack of activity, the feeling that there was no forward movement in our ministries, I´m ready to admit that for me it was a difficult waiting on the Lord. Right before the lockdown, we had some great forward movement happening, we had just moved into our 3rd rental, due to growth, we had started a second work in a village near us that was going good, we had just finished a 10 week training class for Sunday school workers that had 14 complete the course and we were just on the verge of starting Sunday school and 2 weeks before our world shut down.  L It didn´t make sense then and I for one still don´t know everything the Lord was doing, but I do know and believe it was for our good. In spite of a difficult year to navigate the Lord did many positive things in our midst. In spite of not being able to go out and do a lot of personal evangelism, we saw several saved. We also continued with discipleship, in fact even know we have 5 families involved in our 12-week course of discipleship and one of our ladies who finished the class is taking another young lady through them. That´s a blessing! We started a Bible Institute that has 4 students faithfully attending. We were able to continue preaching the word of God on live stream services. Liz was able to keep her ladies Bible study which has about 50 ladies who tune in every Saturday night. 2 of our ladies started kids' online ministry which has about 40 kids every Sunday afternoon watching and participating; they even had a Bible drill contest and mailed a prize to the winner in a different state! PTL! We were able to maintain our building rented during a time where there were basically no offerings and we´re thankful to you providing for our ministry needs. It´s been a huge blessing now that things are opening, our large rental can accommodate most of our church even with the spaced seating required, and something we could never do in or previous space. Many churches here are still closed due to their lack of room. So, even in spite of our limited abilities the Lord has been faithful. We also were able to finalize all of our dealings with the City Planning Dept. and had our plans approved for our building. We are praying that we can start construction next year and our prayer is that you will co labor with us in this worthy project. We will be updating the info as we move forward so that you can participate in the funds needed to build. Let us say again we are grateful to each and every one of our supporters that have sacrificed so much. Our needs have been met over and above what we could ever think or hope, God has been so good, and we look forward to another year of service should the Lord tarry. God bless and keep looking up, our redemption is drawing near!   Mitch and Liz, Your servants in the Yucatán

Missionary Update 08/02/2019

JUNE – JULY 2019   Greetings in the precious name of the Lord Jesus Christ,   We trust this letter finds you well; Liz and I are grateful and thankful for your support of our work in Mexico. The Lord is faithfully answering your prayers. So where do we start? So much has been happening in our ministry. First of all, we have purchased a piece of property for the future site of Open Door Baptist. We are so very grateful for our sending church Open Door, pastor Murphy, Grace Baptist Church, and pastor Shanks and to Brother Wade Ekberg who made the purchase possible. The property is right inside our area of labor which in itself is no small miracle, as there is precious little land within Fco. De Montejo. But our God is bigger than any obstacle we may imagine. Here we are with the title deed and the other photo shows the proximity to our neighborhood.                            In addition to the land purchase, our cup continued to overflow. We saw a need for vehicles to run routes. We had been using our truck, but it was limited in what we could do. We prayed for a van which costs around 4,000 $US and several churches responded. In the end the response was so overwhelming we were able to purchase not just 1 van but 2! We are so thankful to Cornerstone Baptist, pastor Doug Black, Cornerstone Baptist, pastor Ron Ralph, to Bible Believers Baptist, pastor Bevans Welder, to Berean Bible Church, pastor Paul Owens, to Prospect Avenue Baptist, pastor Phil Owens and to Zion Baptist, pastor Ernie Goode. May God continue to bless their ministries.                   I         In addition to these material blessings, God has been moving in our church. We are averaging       about 50 in regular attendees on Sundays and have seen baptisms, and great joy to see men and women stepping in to serve. We have a great excitement for what lies ahead as the Lord is moving in a very glorious way through Iglesia Bautista Puerta Abierta. Thank you for your prayers, your sacrificial giving and may God continue to recompense your labor of love.   Mitch and Liz     Sending Church:                                                                                                     Support Address; Open Door Baptist                                                  Pastor Jason Murphy              Word for the World Baptist Ministries 177014 44th Ave W                                                                                                PO Box 849 Lynnwood, WA 98037                                                                                           Rossville, GA 30741-0849

Missionary Update 06/03/2019

This  is the LORD'S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. Psalms 118   We never cease to marvel at the working of the Lord in our lives and ministries. He is faithful and our greatest desire is to make sure we are following His leading and not getting ahead of His plans.   In the months of April and May we had some significant advances in our ministry. All in all, it´s been a fruitful few months. We now are renting a house that will allow us to expand our ministry capability to include children´s classes. It will also enable us to accommodate 50 people, which if things continue may not be that far off. Since April we have seen our average go from 15 or so to over 30 every Sunday. Folks are excited about what the Lord is doing. We were able to see 4 come forward for baptism a few weeks ago and we are rejoicing for the work being done in the hearts of people. On Mother´s Day we had 6 visitors, and each mother received a small gift of chocolates. In May we began visiting a small village called Samahil about a ½ hour away. Since going out there we have seen 7 saved and our desire is to establish a church there. Pray that the Lord will open the heart of a family to let us begin on their property. Speaking of property, we have been looking at a few places to purchase. We believe we have enough to purchase, so we´re looking and praying. As this develops, we will let you all know how you can help us begin building. We believe the Lord is moving in this direction and are excited about the rapid pace of things taking place here. On a personal note, we were blessed to go see our daughter Genoveve graduate from college, with honors and Magna Cum Laude! We are so proud of her and thankful to the Lord for his work in her life. We have a few pictures for you, thank you for the prayers and the support of our calling. We have a prayer request for a vehicle, our truck is filled to capacity and having people in the back is frowned upon so we may not be able to keep picking people up. Will you pray about what part you might have in purchasing a van for routes? We need about $4,000 to purchase a decent van here.
