GLOBAL OUTREACH MISSIONS - TYPHOON HAIYAN RELIEF PROJECT

Welcome to GLOBAL OUTREACH MISSIONS TYPHOON HAIYAN RELIEF PROJECT information site. We invite you to browse the menu for informative presentation options that define and describe this critically important Christian-based cooperative humanitarian outreach by local churches, communities and cooperative supporters.

TYPHOON HAIYAN - DESTRUCTION AND LOSS

On November 8th, 2013, the island nation of the Philippines was ravaged by the hardest and most destructive typhoon to reach land in recorded history. In the wake of the storm, well over ten million Filipino people have been displaced, roads and bridges, seaports and supply services have been destroyed, the medical and emergency services seriously hampered and water, electricity and fuel compromised as well as basic sanitary and sewage containment severely hampered.

In tragedy, the devastating loss of life, of family, friends, and fellow countrymen is challenged by the stark reality of the loss of homes, businesses, jobs, entire villages, roads, services and infrastructure. The need is not only physical, expressed in so many ways, but spiritual as many people struggle emotionally and mentally with the toll of such loss and seek to make some sense of it all.

The long term healing and help for a people hurt by such devastation begins in the heart. The churches and the Christian community, both individually and corporately, are needed even more so in such an hour and time as this. Spiritual darkness can only be extinguished with spiritual light!

Churches and entire congregations have been devastated, and in many cases, destroyed; buildings and properties, Bibles and song books, pews and pulpits, parsonages and vehicles, equipment- all gone.

The materials are not available to replace many things, the tools and equipment needed to rebuild are caught in rebuilding the infrastructure, and the funds that are needed for the physical cannot help with the spiritual!

Spiritual darkness can only be extinguished with Spiritual Light!" ~Pastor Smith

The need to rebuild the churches is of the utmost importance if they are to rebuild the lives of the Filipino people, and the need for Bibles to guide them in the process is greater now than ever!

The Go Missions Haiyan Relief Project, in cooperation with Bible & Literature Missionary Foundation and Word of Faith Scripture Printing, is prepared to meet that need with a plan that allows God’s pastors and their people to provide the labor and the love needed to do the work and to get the Word out!

Philippines Relief - Proposal

We prepared a proposal and compiled a list of churches that have been involved in other projects and a proposal of how we could work together to do more than we could individually. We were in contact with missionaries and pastors in the Philippines, including those sent out of Faith Baptist Church, confirming we were on the same page and we had the correct plan. A presentation was made in January 2014 during a Pastor’s Conference and provided a good deal of interest, which resulted in a follow up letter in late January. A good number of pastors and churches responded, and several more wanted time to present it to their people. A second letter was sent to a wider audience in April with an update and an invitation to join. The correspondence presented the project in three parts:

1. Tools and equipment

2. Scriptures and discipleship materials

3. Tracts and evangelistic materials

1. Tools and equipment:

Five teams would be equipped with the tools necessary to rebuild. The equipment would belong to the Independent Baptist Churches and would be cared for by a cooperative effort overseen by pastors Reuben and Benito Abante.

Pastor Benito Abante

Metropolitan Bible Baptist Church
Manila, Philippines

Pastor Reuben Abante

Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church
Quezon City, Philippines

The teams would be equipped with generators, compressors, cement mixers, power saws, chain saws, ladders, shovels, rakes, drills, levels, cords, tape measures, hammers, hand tools, nailers, wheel barrows and much more, as well as self-contained power and lighting sources and equipment lock boxes and tools. This would require the help of many pastors and people; a projected cost of $50,000 was presented and a proposal for 50 supporters and $1,000 each. (A sufficient amount, but not too much for anyone to bear.)

2. Scriptures and outreach materials:

Go Missions has been effectively and actively working with a number of Scripture printing ministries around the globe, so we contacted them with the possibility of providing assistance for this project.

We were able to secure 100,000 English New Testaments from Bible & Literature Missionary Foundation in Shelbyville, Tennessee, and within three weeks the first container was shipped to Manila.

Bible Literature & Missionary Foundation

Working with B.L.M.F. and Word of Faith Scripture Printing, another 50,000 English New Testaments and 15,000 Tagalog New Testaments were produced and provided for the project and prepared to ship to Manila. The container shipping costs were supplied by Northwest Baptist Church in Marysville, Washington.

3 Different Tracts
Philippines Bible Society

3. Tracts and evangelistic materials

The Filipino churches requested evangelistic outreach materials for mass distribution, so Work of Faith Publications produced three different titles of four fold, full color tracts and provided them to the Philippine Bible Society, which is printing two million copies of them for distribution to the churches through this project. Design and development of discipleship materials, special covers and insert pages have been prepared and provided by Work of Faith Publishing by combining the materials provided in the states and contracting out the evangelistic materials to Filipino production, a proposed third container is eliminated, saving almost $6,000 dollars.
